To do the displacement map you need to start with a portrait of your choice, you can either get one from the internet or use your own.
After you have found an image you need to click on the 'channels' tab which is located on the bottom corner. Once you have clicked the tab you will now have to find the darkest colour. To do this, click the 'eye' on the different colours shown.
Once you have found the darkest colour, you need to make a new document. If you're on an Apple product with no right click, you need to press your 'ctrl key' and click the channel. You will then get two options and you need to click 'Duplicate Channel'. You then give it a name you will remember and save it.
You will now have a new document. This is now your displacement map.
The next step is to create a blur on your photo. You need to go into 'filters' which is on the top toolbar. You then need to go down till 'blur' where you click 'Gaussian blur'. This will lower the sharp detail of the image, by doing this you are making the image have a smooth effect.
After all of this, save the image as a .psd, any name will be fine as long as you remember the name and the location you put it in.
Now it's time to apply the displacement map. Go to 'filter > Distort > Displacement' and the use the settings provided. It will then add a displacement map to your design.
